Brahms was born on 7th May in Hamburg, he was the second child of Johanna Henrijka Christiana Nissen and Johann Jakob Brahms

1840
Brahms began to study piano with Otto Willibald Cossel and Eduard Marxsen, who taught him also in music-theory and composition

1848
on 21th september he gave his first own concert in Hamburg

1851
first composition: "Scherzo" e flat minor op.4

1853
first journey for concerts with the violinist Ed. Reményi, who came from Hungary to Hamburg as one of many emigrants after the broken down revolution of 1849
at this time Brahms met Joseph Joachim and Clara Schumann and Franz Liszt.

Robert Schumann died

Brahms went to the court of Detmold to collect experiences in conducting choir and orchestra

Brahms founded his "Hamburger Frauenchor"

Brahms went to Vienna for the first time

Brahms became director of the "Singakademie"

Brahms took a summer-flat at Fluntern near Zürich/Switzerland and met the poet Gottfried Keller and the pianist Theodor Kirchner

he spent his summer at Sassnitz on the island Rügen, where he finshed his Symphony No.1 op.68

Brahms spent his summer at Mürzzuschlag for the first time and composed there the first two movements of his Symphony No.4

Brahms went to Mürzzuschlag again and composed there the 3rd and 4th movement of his fourth symphony
